Summary

  • The Last of Us Season 3 may shift perspective to a different character
  • A release date for the new season is yet to be announced

The third season of The Last of Us is likely sticking to its source material, with the story possibly playing out in the perspective of a different character. Spoilers ahead for those who have yet to watch the new season or play the video games.

In a recent interview with Variety, Catherine O’Hara — who plays therapist Gail in the second season — subtly hinted that season three’s focus will be on Abby. Nothing more was revealed, but fans who have played The Last of Us Part II speculate that the next season will follow the game’s change in perspective. A portion of Part II is played as Abby, and shows her side of the story after she kills Joel early on in the game.

Speaking to Hypebeast, actress Kaitlyn Dever opened up about taking on the divisive character. A Washington Liberation Front (WLF) soldier, Abby actively seeks out Joel in order to exact revenge after he killed her father Jerry — the doctor who was supposed to operate on Ellie in the first game. “I think it’s fascinating,” Dever stated. “They can easily call Abby a villain for what she did. Yes, she’s a flawed person, but I think you could say the same thing about a lot of the characters and how all of them aren’t that different from each other.”
