The MCU Already Has The Perfect Way To Bring Back Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield In Spider-Man 4

Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 has an easy way to include Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Peter Parker, with the three heroes teaming up again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the most special superhero movies ever made. It is a love letter to all the Spider-Man movies, seeing Maguire and Garfield return as their versions of the wall-crawler. On top of that, villains from the previous cinematic Spider-Man franchises also came back, with Willem Dafoe's new turn as Green Goblin making him one of the best MCU villains.

Marvel and Sony managed to achieve many exciting things with the film, which almost reached the $2 billion mark — it would have done so easily if released in China — and has become the best of Holland's Spider-Man movies. However, some fans were disappointed that Maguire and Garfield only came in late into the movie. That was done so the focus of the film remained on Holland's version of Peter Parker, but now that the relationship between the trio has been established, there is a perfect way to have all three actors co-lead Spider-Man 4 with a multiverse story.

Spider-Man 4 Being Set In Battleworld Could Bring Back Maguire & Garfield

Avengers: Doomsday Could Set It Up

In July, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared an update on Spider-Man 4, saying, "We have writers who are going to be delivering us a draft relatively soon.” Based on that timeline, a late 2024 filming start for the movie is extremely unlikely. Holland's Spider-Man 4 should take the rest of the year to get its story, casting, and sets in place for a 2025 shooting start. With it being hard to see any possible way for Spider-Man 4 to premiere in 2025, the MCU movie is a good candidate for a 2026 release.

2026 is a major year for Marvel, with Avengers: Doomsday releasing in May. As the movie will set up 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars, it could end with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom creating Battleworld. The planet is made up of several locations from across the Marvel multiverse, uniting multiversal versions of characters and those from Earth-616. Spider-Man 4 releasing after Avengers: Doomsday but before Avengers: Secret Wars would make it perfect for the MCU movie to bring back Garfield and Maguire's versions of Spider-Man. All three actors could co-lead the movie, appearing together in a Spider-Man-focused part of Battleworld.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Success Makes The Multiverse Spider-Men’s Return Inevitable

The Movie Is One Of The MCU's Biggest

No other hero has managed to have such a box office hit with a solo movie like was the case for Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The movie made Avengers-level money worldwide, with $1.92 billion, according to the specialized box office tracking website Box Office Mojo. Spider-Man: No Way Home also became the second movie in Holland's MCU trilogy to pass $1 billion, following Spider-Man: Far From Home's footsteps. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, No Way Home's score sits at 93% with critics and 98% with fans.

All this is to say that Spider-Man: No Way Home was an all-around success, becoming one of the MCU's highest-grossing movies and being received positively by critics and the audience. Holland, Maguire, and Garfield coming together for the film led to that, and with the three actors game to appear in more projects as Spider-Man, another team-up is inevitable. Spider-Man 4 even has the chance to offer fans a longer role for Maguire and Garfield, with all three Spider-Men finding each other in Battleworld and working together for the entire movie, which has the potential to gross over $2 billion.

Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield’s MCU Returns Could Answer A Lingering Question

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parkers in Spider-Man No Way Home stood close together

Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending puts Holland's Peter Parker in a dark place. In order to stop every multiverse character who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man from flooding Earth-616, Holland's Spider-Man asked Doctor Strange for a spell that made everyone forget who Peter was. It worked, sending all the multiverse characters back home. However, the movie never showed what happened to Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men after they were sent back to their universes. In theory, Doctor Strange's spell should also have made it so that Maguire and Garfield's Peter Parkers were erased from the minds of their loved ones.

That would make for an emotional reunion whenever they encounter Holland's Spider-Man, with the MCU's Peter Parker realizing that what he did had even more consequences than he realized. Alternatively, the reunion could allow the MCU to clear up the confusion, coming up with an explanation for how the status quo is maintained in Garfield and Maguire's universes. If Spider-Man 4 ends up going the multiverse route, there is a good chance this question will get answered
