The New Orleans Saints have had a tough few seasons in a row now, and the worst part of this has been the fact that they are doing so with one of the easiest schedules each year. Their strength of schedule has been weak due to their poor performances, which usually tends to weigh their opponents towards the lower end of things to give them a better chance of being competitive.
This is the case once again in 2025, as after one of their worst years in recent memory, the Saints will have a supposedly easy schedule once again. The difference this year is that the formula is calculated a bit differently, as instead of utilizing 2024 team records, the analysts have started to utilize forecasted win totals instead. Warren Sharp provided an early strength of schedule prediction recently for the 2025 season, and here are some of the notable takeaways.
Firstly, the Saints have an easy path, coming up with the third-easiest schedule for 2025, behind only the New England Patriots at No. 2 and the San Francisco 49ers at No. 1. Interestingly enough though, the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants will have the two hardest schedules, and then the Detroit Lions, who will have a tough time after one of their best seasons.
As for the NFC South, things are roughly skewed in their favor, as ranking them from easiest to hardest, the Saints are at No. 3, the Atlanta Falcons are at No. 4, the Carolina Panthers are at No. 7, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at No. 10.
Overall, this does not mean a whole lot as the Saints seem to be in somewhat of a retooling or rebuilding phase, but having an easy schedule, if they are actually going to try and compete, should help them reach their goal of doing so.
