The Rangers' Coaching Dilemma Plus More Blueshirts News

1. Kris Knoblauch, who could have been – SHOULD HAVE BEEN – Rangers head coach instead of Peter Laviolette, is a mere three wins from helping Edmonton win The Stanley Cup.

2. As far as The Maven can recall neither David Quinn nor Gerard Gallant nor Peter Laviolette were three wins from the Cup during their Rangers tenure. (Big win for Hartford's ex-coach KK last night in Edmonton.)

3. Figure this one out for me. Dan Muse was one of Lavvy's aides in their  failed – and fumigated – quest for a playoff berth. For such good work, Muse just got hired as head coach of the Penguins. (I wonder how Sidney Crosby feels about this.)

4. I'll say this for Chris Drury; he's a better GM than Kyle (I Keep Fooling Them) Dubas in Pittsburgh.

5. My ultra hockey-smart pal Jessica Cassino offers this pithy gem: "Chris Drury Makes Me Roll My Eyes Out Loud!"

6. Let's not forget that one of the things the Rangers must find for the new season is called IDENTITY.

7. So far it has to be "Happiness-Busters."

8. My idea of a Super Fourth Line had Brennan Othmann teamed with the Twin Giraffes – Matt Rempe and Adam Edstrom, but I've been talked out of that. Forget Othmann and replace him with Jonny Brodzinski

9. Jess Rubenstein insists that Othmann needs lots of ice time because he's a scorer and would be wasted on the fourth line. (I'll buy that for now.)

10. Just curious; has anyone replaced Glen Sather as "Special Advisor To MSG Owner Jim Dolan? That's the job for Benny Allaire, the goaltending guru who either voluntarily retired – or got pushed out. (I'll be Igor misses Benny.)

11. SPIRIT! That's what Joe Micheletti says is missing from this Rangers roster. So who's the perfect spirit guy from the Rangers past? SEAN AVERY.  I'd sign Aves as "Special Advisor To Mike Sullivan."

12. The Maven would have  Avery visit the Blueshirt dressing room once a month to infuse the missing spirit. A monthly Sean Avery rip-roarin' chat could mean a playoff berth. (Can't hurt, can it?)
