The New York Rangers have a major decision to make regarding K’Andre Miller.
Miller is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and after an underwhelming season, it makes his contract situation tricky.
Although Miller is a young defenseman with a ton of potential, giving him a long-term contract extension could be a major risk for the Rangers that could backfire if he continues to show these concerning signs on the ice.
So if the Rangers don’t want to sign Miller to a lengthy extension, what should the organization do?
Well, there are two options. Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury can opt to give the 25-year-old a bridge contract and see what transpires over the next couple of years.
The problem with that idea is that if Miller blossoms into a promising player, they will be forced to cough up even more money in the future, especially with the salary cap going up.
The nuclear option is to trade Miller if the organization doesn't believe in his development.
However, Miller’s overall trade value isn’t as high as it once was, so trading him may not be the most beneficial as they wouldn’t be maximizing his value.
So you see, there are a few steps that the Rangers could take that have many pros and cons and it’s quite the dilemma Drury has on his hands.
