The sci-fi series that instantly “hooked” Pedro Pascal: “I still can’t think of a better intro”

Pedro Pascal - Actor - 2025

Since his early appearances on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal has appeared in just about every project an actor could wish for.

From his knockout role in HBO’s screen adaptation of The Last of Us, his upcoming role in The Fantastic Four reboot, to his work with Ari Aster and Celine Song, the actor is now completely booked and busy, making up for years of being slightly under the radar through appearances in some of the most highly-anticipated projects of the decade.

But, for Pascal, his love for cinema started from a very young age, with the actor recalling fond memories of watching movies and falling head over heels with the idea of one day starring in them. However, there was one story that most captivated him, and inadvertently led to a role of a lifetime.

The Star Wars franchise is one of the biggest in the world, with George Lucas creating the series from nothing in the 1970s and raising one of the biggest blockbuster hits of all time, despite the fact that there was little faith in the idea from the beginning.

The director was met with scepticism after sharing his idea for sci-fi fantasy set in a galaxy far, far away, but regardless, he insisted on creating new technology for the special effects and to own the rights for merchandising and sequels, leading to a multi-billion dollar franchise that has spawned into a myriad of new stories and series under LucasFilms and Disney.

Pascal fell in love with the sci-fi genre after watching Battlestar Galactica as a kid, with the actor saying, “I am a big Battlestar Galactica fan boy, big time. I own the DVDs. I still can’t think of anything that has a better intro than Battlestar Galactica, every episode. Just the thrill of the drum beat showing you what was going to happen in the episode, but still throwing your scent off what was going to happen in the episode.”

It was a love that captivated him and sparks an intense feeling of nostalgia even now, something that has led to his upcoming role in The Mandalorian and Grogu, a show directed by Jon Favreau that will be a continuation of the Disney series The Mandalorian.

For any sci-fi lover, this is a huge deal, with Pascal finally having the opportunity to star in the story world that he loves so dearly. While few details are known about the show, it has been announced that the actor will star alongside Jeremy Allen White, Sigourney Weaver and Jonny Coyne, something that has fans waiting on tenterhooks before the big day of its release.

Favreau first pitched a Star Wars television series in 2017 to the LucasFilm president, eventually resulting in the hit show that has become a core part of Disney’s catalogue. While some die-hard fans might prefer for the story to be left in the past, with too much of something sometimes ruining it, the series has proven to be hugely popular since its release and will only skyrocket through Pascal’s presence.
