Brittany Cartwright opened up about her “worst days” with estranged husband Jax Taylor after Tuesday night’s episode of The Valley.
As Jax, 45, appeared shocked and emotional at the bipolar diagnosis he received amid one of his rehab stays last year, claiming he “cried,” Brittany, 36, suggested that he’d been diagnosed with the same condition before — and refused to take the medication he was prescribed.
“I will say that I can tolerate him around, whenever we’re doing different things, a little bit more, I don’t have to worry about after he’s out on a bender because those were the worst days ever, the next day, the come down was just so incredibly [bad],” Brittany recalled on the May 13 episode of The Valley: After Show. “So it’s not that intense maybe, but he’ll be fine one day and then screaming at me about who I’m dating. It’s very, very up and down.”
According to Brittany, Jax went to a doctor a year before his 2024 rehab visits and “came back saying that they told him he was bipolar then, too.”
“That prescription sat in my junk drawer, and he never got it filled. Me and his sister would beg him and beg him, ‘Please just try,’ and he never got it filled,” she shared.
Meanwhile, in his own After Show segment, Jax admitted to being checked and finding out that “something was wrong,” but insisted he was never diagnosed with bipolar.
“It was depression, and I didn’t get the prescription filled — the first time,” he claimed. “Then I got the prescription filled the second time with Lexapro, and I took it for about two and a half weeks.”
Then, looking back on his time in rehab, Jax said he told professionals that the Lexapro wasn’t working.
“And they’re like, ‘Well, you’re not depressed,’” he revealed. “I cried my eyes out when they told me what was wrong. ‘You’re clearly bipolar. You should be on medication.’ And it was just like, ‘Thank you God, finally I found something that I can take that’s gonna fix this f*cking problem.'”
“I needed the medication, and I’m glad I’m on it. I don’t have blowups anymore at all,” he added.
Still, Zack Wickham, 36, was less than surprised by the news of Jax’s diagnosis.
“He’s been diagnosed with that before. That’s not an epiphany,” he stated.
Also on The Valley: After Show, after Lala Kent, 34, pointed out that Jax had texted Brittany 14 times during the taping of their segment, suggesting his behavior was indicative of a lack of change, a flashback showed Brittany asking, “Why the hell is this guy calling me over and over?”
“Why do you keep calling and texting me?” she then questioned Jax after answering the phone.
“I’m just checking in. What’s going on?” Jax asked.
“You know I’m filming the After Show,” she replied.
But Jax was unconcerned.
“I had a really rough day today with the car. I had some car issues. Then it was just, it was just a bad day. Okay, so ugh, okay. Alright. So that’s it, I guess,” he shared, continuing to rant as Brittany awaited his silence.
“Well, I gotta get back to work,” she stated, prompting him to ask, “Why are you being so mean?”
“I’m not. I’m not being mean,” Brittany insisted.
“Just being really short with me. I don’t understand,” Jax complained.
“I have to film,” Brittany continued.
“Oh. Alright. Okay,” Jax finally agreed.
Then, after they said their “goodbyes,” Brittany asked, “What is my life?”
The Valley season two airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
