‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ EP Thinks About Bringing Back Glenn “All The Time”

Steven Yeun as Glenn Rhee in 'The Walking Dead'

This week’s episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City called back to one of the franchise’s most heartbreaking deaths.

Executive producer Scott M. Gimple recently addressed the possibility of bringing back Steven Yuen as Glenn to the franchise after Sunday’s Season 2 finale had Maggie (Lauren Cohan) relive his brutal death scene from the parent show’s 2016 Season 7 premiere episode ‘The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be‘.

“I think it comes to mind all the time. In some ways, it’s a pretty obvious way to go,” Gimple told ScreenRant about potentially bringing Yeun back for a flashback or vision. “But it would obviously be enjoyable for all of us. Steven is a remarkably busy dude, though – not to say that these folks aren’t. You never know, I guess I’d say, but we never went that far with it.”

During the Dead City Season 2 finale episode ‘If History Were a Conflagration’, Maggie is forced to relive her husband’s death when she witnesses Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) kill Kim Coates‘ Bruegel with a barbed wire-wrapped bat in the style of his OG weapon Lucille.

Following Glenn’s shocking death scene in 2016, which nearly earned the series its most-viewed episode at the time, Yeun and the cast reflected on his departure during a live event for that night’s Talking Dead post-show.

“The death in the comic Robert (Kirkman) wrote was such a messed up, but at the same time incredible way to take something away, and make a story as impactful as it is,” he said. “When you read that comic you kind of don’t want that to go to anyone else. I think I even said ‘don’t give that to anybody else.”

Yeun added, “I’m very lucky to have my castmates and my friends here to bounce things off.”
