The Dead City Season 2 trailer finds Lauren Cohan's Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan back on opposing sides, with the latter seemingly interested in vying for control of Manhattan, which was long ago cut off from the mainland. "The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror," reads the official Season 2 synopsis. In the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan will find their paths intertwined as "they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined." Check out the official trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 below.
The first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City debuted in June 2023 as the No. 1 season premiere in the history of AMC+ in terms of viewership across all new and returning series, including the original The Walking Dead series. Viewership continued to increase on AMC and AMC+ across the six-episode first season, which followed Maggie as she reluctantly teamed up with Negan to travel into post-apocalyptic Manhattan to rescue her son Herschel, played by Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire's Logan Kim. A second season was ordered by AMC in July 2023 ahead of its Season 1 finale.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Was Excited to Reunite Negan With Lucille
While the original Lucille was destroyed in The Walking Dead, a replacement will seemingly be created by Negan in Dead City Season 2. Speaking in December 2024 about learning that Negan would be reunited with Lucille, Morgan stated, "Well, I freaked out. I didn’t realize how much I missed her, not only as Negan, but as myself. Just getting to hold that damn bat again adds something to that character and the swagger and the confidence and the humor that Negan has. It’s been sorely missed."
The actor continued, "The second that she’s back in Negan’s hands, he is empowered in some way that he hasn’t been in the last few years. It was a cool thing, having her back."
The Walking Dead: Dead City returns for its second season on AMC and AMC+ on May 4.
