The Walking Dead Explains Why Maggie Still Hasn't Killed Negan Over 100 Episodes After Glenn's Death

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, episode 6, "Bridge Partners are Hard to Come by These Days".It has been over 100 episodes since Negan killed Glenn, but despite her hatred and disdain towards her husband's killer, Maggie still hasn't taken revenge on Negan and The Walking Dead has finally revealed why. Having killed two fan favorites upon his arrival, Negan instantly became one of the franchise's biggest villains, and no character hated him more than Maggie. Watching her husband get beaten to death right in front of her was truly heartbreaking, and Glenn's final moments remain one of The Walking Dead's most haunting deaths, making it no surprise that Maggie was initially hellbent on getting revenge.

She was determined to kill him during the All Out War arc, and even after the villain was defeated and imprisoned, Maggie went against Rick's wishes and tried to assassinate Negan. Unfortunately, her plan was unsuccessful, and while Maggie and Negan's Walking Dead feud continued all the way into Dead City, she no longer seems interested in killing him. Maggie admitted that she'd never truly forgive Negan for what he'd done, but despite all of her negative feelings towards him, she finally explained the true reason she hasn't killed him after all these years of pain and trauma.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, Episode 6 Explains Why Maggie Hasn't Killed Negan

Maggie Claimed She Was "Scared Of What Is On The Other Side" Of Killing Getting Revenge

The Walking Dead Dead: City season 2 still of Negan & Maggie staring at each other.

While Maggie's reasoning for not killing Negan has many layers, Dead City's latest episode helped explain one of the biggest factors. During her conversation with Ginny, Maggie talked about her resentment towards Negan and how it impacted her, admitting that she wanted to kill him and that she should've just gotten it out of the way. However, most importantly, Maggie claimed, "Maybe I'm just scared of what's on the other side of it. Like it won't get better." This admission reveals a lot about why she has let Negan live despite never completely moving on from what he did.

There's a part of her that feels like killing Negan may only make her pain worse while she becomes more like him, at least the version that killed Glenn. Additionally, she may begrudgingly feel indebted to him since he played a major role in ending the war with the Whisperers while helping save Hershel's life over the years. Maggie undoubtedly still resents her long-time foe, and with Negan showing evil glimpses in The Walking Dead spinoff, her feelings towards him could still play a role in the show's climax, but it's hard to imagine her killing him now.

Maggie's fear of becoming like the man who murdered her husband seems like a strong motivation to spare his life and try to move on once and for all.

She has gotten over the worst of their history and has much bigger concerns to worry about - such as finding Hershel - suggesting that Maggie is content with letting Negan live, even if she never forgives him. Her explanation to Ginny may be a slight way of justifying all her attempts to execute Negan earlier in the series, but Maggie's fear of becoming like the man who murdered her husband seems like a strong motivation to spare his life and try to move on once and for all.

It's Surely Too Late For Maggie To Kill Negan In The Walking Dead Now

Maggie Has Already Gotten Over The Worst Of Her Hatred Towards Negan

Even if there is another twist in the tale regarding the duo's relationship, it feels far too late for Maggie to kill Negan. Given their grudge has been ongoing since season 7's premiere, it would feel strange for Maggie to get her revenge almost nine years later. While they are still a long way away from burying the hatchet, both have made their feelings towards one another clear, with Negan trying to make amends for a long time before accepting that they are better off going their separate ways.

Likewise, trying to get closure on Glenn's death has cost Maggie a lot, something she even admitted in season 2, episode 6, so changing her mind now and going after Negan again would feel bizarre given how much they've both developed over the years. Sure, Negan's Saviors replacement in The Walking Dead spinoff does make him dangerous again, but Maggie has no reason to stick around in Manhattan once she finds Hershel, meaning their feud has no real reason to reignite.

It's completely understandable if Maggie never makes peace with Negan, but her time to get revenge has come and gone, meaning The Walking Dead should close the chapter on this story for good. I'm all for the characters crossing paths again in the future as they do have an interesting dynamic and great on-screen chemistry, but Dead City season 2 should ease their animosity and make it clear Maggie is no longer a major concern for Negan.
