As Rick Grimes on AMC’s smash-hit series, The Walking DeadAndrew Lincoln hasn't just earned himself a universal fanbase, but also a reputation as one of the most impressive non-American actors to ever take on a US accent. Hailing from the production company behind the hit series Black Doves, SISTER, soon comes Coldwater, with a selection of first-look images now released.

Among the images is a look at Lincoln's John, described via a report as "a repressed man living in London and raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad. His move to the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater sets the show's plot in motion." These teasing images, available to view below, also give fans a glimpse at some of Lincoln's co-stars, including Olivier Award winner and Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma and Trainspotting's Ewen BremnerTorchwood favorite Eve Myles will join them in a set of scripts penned by David Ireland, with Doctor Who's Lee Haven Jones and Shetland's Andrew Cumming sharing directing duties.

What is 'Coldwater' About?

Andrew Lincoln and Ewen Bremner get close in a confrontation in Coldwater

Coldwater might boast a stellar cast, but what is the series about? "When [John's] failure to intervene in a violent confrontation in a playground brings his identity crisis to a head, John ups and moves his family to the rural idyll of Coldwater, as far away from London as possible," the synopsis begins. "Upon arrival, John is quickly befriended by next-door neighbor Tommy, a charming, confident man and devoted husband to the local vicar, Rebecca. He is a man of faith, a pillar of the community, and self-appointed leader of the village’s all-male book group." The synopsis continues, "John is both impressed and slightly fascinated by Tommy. His wife Fiona despises him. Fiona saw the move to Coldwater as an opportunity to leave the past behind them and reignite the spark in their fading marriage." Finally, the synopsis concludes:

"When her husband’s relationship with their enigmatic new neighbor becomes increasingly intense, Fiona’s suspicions are aroused. She is unconvinced Tommy is all he seems to be. When John’s long-repressed rage comes to a head with disastrous results, he soon finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend, unaware that Tommy himself is harboring horrifying secrets. It’s only after a series of unsettling incidents start to occur that John begins to wonder who the real Tommy actually is. This is the story of a normal man, in a normal marriage, who finds himself in a far-from-normal situation. A man who discovers a newfound sense of his own power, right at the moment he falls under the influence of someone incredibly dangerous."

Coldwater arrives on ITV later this year. You can catch Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead now.
