The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) has become insufferably nice, so we have to ask: Is it time for “good girl” Claire to go bad? Does Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) girlfriend need to flip and embrace her inner sinister side again?
When Claire first came on the scene, she was secretly working for Jordan (Colleen Zenk) on a plot to take down the Newmans.
That plot could’ve cost multiple family members their lives, but Claire got the help she needed and overcame her twisted past.
Unfortunately, it seems like Y&R has gone overboard with Claire’s redemption.
Claire has zero layers now, so she’s just become this over-the-top sweet character who’s naïve and emotionally stunted.
In the April 22 episode, Claire’s “good girl” personality was downright goofy as she rambled on about puppies and the moon to sell Kyle on the idea that she loved him.
Kyle and Claire’s romance honestly feels like something meant for teenage characters.
It’d be more fitting if Claire and Kyle were talking to each other like this between school bells by their lockers!
However, the show has an easy opportunity to make Claire grow up fast and perhaps revert to her “bad girl” ways.
Claire could get some intriguing layers back if she plots revenge after her love life goes off the rails.
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) hired Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) to ruin Claire and Kyle’s chance at living happily ever after.
Audra intends to put Kyle in a compromising position and prove to Claire that he can’t be trusted.
It’s possible that Kyle and Audra could legitimately surrender to temptation if Audra’s plan goes too far.
Regardless, there’s the potential for Claire to believe what Audra’s selling and turn against Kyle.
Even if Claire sees through Audra’s deception, she’s going to be livid with Victor over his interference.
That could be another way for Claire to drop the saccharine act and finally regain her edge, which could arguably make her a more interesting character.
Whatever the case, it feels like Claire is overdue for another personality shift and a story shakeup.
Should Y&R finally let Claire head back down a sinister road and give her some better material?
