Tessa and Daniel continued their guitar lessons in the park. Daniel picked up on Tessa not laughing at a joke he made and asked his teacher what was going on. Tessa revealed that she was down about Mariah, who had her tossing and turning in bed. “Things have just been really weird between us,” Tessa confessed. Her wife wasn’t talking to her, and she didn’t know why.

Tessa shared with Daniel that Mariah has been crying softly in bed, and she thought Tessa couldn’t hear her. Daniel asked if this was because of Ian, but Tessa said this felt darker. Daniel offered to support Tessa and pointed out that his art career was mostly over when he first returned to Genoa City. Daniel added that he kept all his pain inside. “Typical tortured artist,” Tessa quipped.

Daniel noted that he wasn’t just hurting himself, but his family, too. He neglected his duties as a partner to Heather and a father to Lucy. Daniel added that Heather reached out to him, but he turned away. That changed when he realized he had more to lose in terms of Heather. Tessa asked if Daniel was telling her she needed to give Mariah time. She added that it would be hard as she doesn’t know what’s going on with her wife. The two went back to playing their instruments. Daniel said he might not call what he just played a song, but suggested it didn’t sound half bad. Tessa sang as they continued to play.

Tessa said there was a wall between them. She wondered if she could ask Sharon and Mariah’s family to intervene. Daniel offered that Mariah might feel ganged up on. He suggested chipping away at the wall and not tearing it down. They returned to strumming chords with their guitars. Daniel shared that it was incredible to watch Tessa. He offered to take a break, but he said he could do this all day with her.

Meanwhile, Mariah and Sharon caught up on Cassidy First Technology's business. Sharon asked her daughter what she could do to prove to Mariah that what Ian Ward did to her was not her fault. Sharon put work aside and asked if she’d talked to Tessa about what happened on her business trip. Mariah said she wasn’t going to discuss it. “What’s done is done,” she said.

Sharon said as a mom – not a therapist – she could see that Mariah wasn’t putting anything behind her. She gently asked her daughter if she’d been with someone while away and if that’s what was bothering her so much.

Sharon implored Mariah to tell her what had happened. Mariah said what she did was worse than a one-night stand. If it’d been that, she could confess it and ask for forgiveness. Mariah said she didn’t know how to tell Tessa what she’d done.

Sharon reminded her daughter that they’d been here before, but positions were reversed when Sharon thought she’d killed Heather. “You did not give up on me then, and I’m not giving up on you now,” Sharon said. “If you can’t talk to me, I can recommend someone.”

Mariah noted that talking to a stranger is what got her in this mess originally. “Mom, I can’t,” Mariah told her mother. Sharon asked Mariah if she could hug her. Mother and daughter embraced.

Over breakfast at the ranch, Nikki and Nick caught up on recent events, including Michael and Victor’s breakup. Then, Vicki entered and gave her mother and brother an update on Cole. Claire’s with him at the hospital, and he may have pneumonia. Nikki gave her daughter a supportive hug. Victoria lamented that she felt so helpless over Cole’s condition. Nikki assured Vicki that everyone was going to be fine.

Nick urged his sister not to worry too much about the worst scenario. Nikki noted that Cole was young and he’d beat this. “I’m just so scared for him,” Vicki said. Victoria agreed it’d be a good idea for her to skip going to France to meet Dumas and instead, stay home and care for Cole.

The subject changed from Cole to an update on Dumas. Nick pointed out that Dumas got in touch with Billy. Nikki said there’s nothing anyone can do to change that she’s running Chancellor Industries. She suspected that the party was not a party but rather a trap. Nick said he and Victor would make sure that everyone was safe. Nikki revealed that the Abbotts and the Winters families were invited, too. Nick said it doesn’t matter what kind of games Dumas wants to play because he’s no match for the Newmans.

Nikki wasn’t sure that Dumas would show his face, but suggested he would have to show his hand once many power players in Genoa City go to France to meet him. Nick offered to bring truffles back to Cole from France. Nikki assured Victoria that everything was going to be all right. She pointed out that Cole was in the best hospital with the best care. Nick noted that Claire being by Cole’s side would have to lift his spirits. “I’m sure you’re going to get good news soon,” Nick told his sister.

Billy and Sally greeted each other at the Genoa City Athletic Club. After Billy left to take a call from Traci, Phyllis approached Sally from behind and told her she wasn’t very good about watching her back.

Sally told Phyllis she wasn’t afraid of her. “Boo!” Phyllis shouted at Sally. “Ever since I was a kid, I made my own way,” Sally said. She let Phyllis know that she was paying Nick back from their last deal. Sally asked if they should compare resumes. Billy interrupted the two women, which prompted Phyllis to say something snarky, and then she walked off.

Sally asked Billy how Traci was. Billy replied that she was good, all things considered. Sally addressed Billy’s idea to hold off on the launch of Abbott Communications until after they went to France to meet with Dumas. Billy asked if Sally agreed to his idea to wait. “Oui,” Sally replied, dryly.

Sally, however, expressed her concern that Billy was going to try to use Dumas to wrest control of Chancellor Industries from the Newmans. Billy said his interest in Dumas has increased. Sally urged Billy to be careful. Billy said he was grateful Sally was going with him. He pulled her in for some kisses. Sally suggested they go upstairs.

Meanwhile, Phyllis texted Amanda from the bar. She wanted to know where she was and threatened to crash Dumas’s party. Amanda picked up and let Phyllis know that she’d gotten her pal on Dumas’s guest list.

Billy and Sally returned to the bar and overheard Phyllis’s news about her going to the party. Sally suggested she and Phyllis compare outfits for the party so it wouldn’t be awkward – for Phyllis.

Phyllis teased Billy that he shouldn’t bring Sally to Dumas’s party. Sally quipped that Phyllis would be a seat-filler at Dumas’s party like people are at the Oscars. Billy and Phyllis read off the names of the people who were going to the party. Sally pointed out that Phyllis didn’t belong.

Then, Daniel entered, and Phyllis walked off with him. Phyllis reminded Daniel that he passed on working with her and that he could have been the yin to her yang. Meanwhile, Billy wondered what the hell Dumas was thinking of inviting Phyllis to his gala. Sally said she wasn’t going to let Phyllis think that she’d scared her off from going to France. Billy promised his party was going to be one hell of a night.

Alone in the park, Mariah sat on a bench and flash-backed to having a drink when a mysterious man approached her and told her she looked like she needed a drink. Next, Tessa showed up and brought Mariah up to speed on her lessons with Daniel. She asked her wife if she wanted to hear her play a song. Mariah said sure. Tessa’s lyrics made Mariah uncomfortable. “I love you so much,” Mariah told her wife. Tessa begged Mariah to tell her what was going on.
