Fire Country season 3 was the toughest on Gabriela, culminating in its finale, when Finn eventually found her tracking her through her phone and threatened Gabriela and Audrey. Fire Country season 3’s ending thus set up Gabriela’s exit, despite never showing onscreen her decision to leave, why she would want to do so, or where she would go. Still, with Fire Country’s showrunner confirming Arcila’s exit as a series regular in an interview with Deadline, Gabriela’s departure from the firefighting drama is definitive. Gabriela leaving Fire Country will be sad, but CBS can make up for it in one way.
Gabriela Should Join Camden Casey In Fire Country: Surfside (Whenever That Happens)
Gabriela's Story In Fire Country Season 3 Would Justify Such A Move
The reasoning for Gabriela’s exit proposed by Fire Country’s showrunner Tia Napolitano makes sense: Bode having started a relationship with Audrey makes it impossible for his romantic connection with Gabriela to continue in Fire Country season 4. This doesn’t necessarily mean Bode and Gabriela can’t have a future, but only that their romance together cannot continue right now. While unexpected, Gabriela’s exit from Fire Country after season 3 completely works, especially after the troubled year that Gabriela had.
Everything went downhill after Gabriela realized she couldn’t marry Diego in Fire Country season 3’s premiere. The guilt of not making that choice earlier, coupled with the money she had to pay back to Diego’s family, all made her solely focused on working extra shifts to pay her debts instead of processing what had happened. Manny risking prison for punching Luke also weighed on Gabriela, not taking well his being sentenced to a year in Three Rock. Reacting to everything by numbing her feelings with alcohol and trying to feel something by diving off rocks only made her situation worse.
The Fire Country season 3 finale ordeal, with Audrey shooting Finn and Gabriela having to keep him alive, was the last straw after a season of terrible occurrences.
Almost dying after going rogue in Fire Country season 3, episode 8 was her lowest point, which prompted Manny to leave his crew to find Gabriela and save her. Thankfully, that helped the father-daughter duo reconnect, convincing Gabriela to take care of herself as a result. Meeting Finn after getting better made Gabriela think good things were headed her way, until the reveal that he was stalking her forcefully changed her mind. The Fire Country season 3 finale ordeal, with Audrey shooting Finn and Gabriela having to keep him alive, was the last straw after a season of terrible occurrences.
What happened to Gabriela in Fire Country season 3 wholly justifies her potentially wanting to move in season 4. The perfect destination for Gabriela would be Southern California, especially as she would already have a connection there. After all, Gabriela not only worked alongside Camden Casey as he went over the Cal Fire inmate firefighters training phase three, but they also sat drinking together at Smokey’s, with Casey immediately realizing she wasn’t well and telling Sharon and Vince. Going to SoCal could offer Gabriela a change of pace, which could greatly help her move on from season 3’s events.

Were it to happen, Gabriela’s presence would give Surfside a stronger connection to its parent series Fire Country. Sheriff Country being set in Edgewater makes the setting familiar, but the same couldn’t be said for Surfside, as it would be set somewhere else entirely. Even if Surfside only sees the light of day years from now, it wouldn’t be difficult to include Gabriela, as she would already be away from Edgewater, and her being in SoCal in Casey’s same firehouse could update on her life after Fire Country and have a known original Fire Country character draw audiences to Surfside.
Joining Surfside Keeps The Door Open For Gabriela & Bode's Romance To Still Happen
Gabriela Being In Surfside Gives A Good Reason For Crossover Episodes With Fire Country
Gabriela’s definitive move there would be enough to motivate others like Bode or Manny to appear, because of their connection to her and because of the importance of Gabriela’s role in Fire Country.
Surfside being a Fire Country spinoff with Gabriela in would also make crossover episodes easier in general, and especially easy in the context of Bode and Gabriela reprising their romance. After all, Camden Casey is too far a connection for key Fire Country characters to jump from the parent series to Surfside, but Gabriela’s definitive move there would be enough to motivate others like Bode or Manny to appear, because of their connection to her and because of the importance of Gabriela’s role in Fire Country.
Gabriela being in a Fire Country spinoff would make it easier for Bode and Gabriela to restart their relationship from where they left off, as the reason for her to appear in Fire Country wouldn’t have to be motivated solely by Fire Country’s story, instead having the chance to rely on Surfside. Crossover episodes between the two series could build Bode and Gabriela’s romance again over time, making Gabriela’s move there after her Fire Country season 4 exit work on so many levels.
