The Rangers could trade these three players at the NHL Trade Deadline.
If the New York Rangers decide to sell at the Mar. 7 NHL Trade Deadline Jimmy Vesey, Ryan Lindgren and Reilly Smith will be the three players most likely to be dealt.
The Rangers are teetering on the fence of pushing for the playoffs or giving up on the season and accumulating assets for the future.
It will all depend on how the Rangers do over this upcoming stretch before the trade deadline.
If things go south, teams will likely reach out to Rangers general manager Chris Drury about acquiring Vesey, Lindgren or Smith, who are all set to become unrestricted free agents this summer.
“There will be a market for three of the Rangers’ pending UFAs: Ryan Lindgren, Reilly Smith and Jimmy Vesey should draw varying levels of interest and varying quality of trade offers, but if the appetite is there to bank some assets rather than use these three for a playoff push, Drury will have a chance to sell,” Peter Baugh and Arthur Staple of The Athletic wrote.
All indications point toward the Rangers moving on from these three players over the offseason, which makes them more expendable in a possible trade.
Between Vesey’s declining role, Lindgren’s defensive struggles and Smith's weird fit with the Rangers, Drury has all the reason to test the trade market.
