After a nearly perfect 2024 season ending in a Super Bowl title, the Philadelphia Eagles still had some players who didn't quite live up to expectations.
For some, injuries got in the way of their performance, and for others, they didn't get it done. The roster has undergone significant changes from the Super Bowl championship team, and everyone needs to be on their A-game with the target on their backs.
There are four players entering the 2025 season that has to get it done and get it done in a big. Either because their jobs could be on the line after the season or the team simply needs them to step up into a increased role.
Four Eagles looking to bounce back in 2025
Jahan Dotson, WR
The Eagles had high hopes that Dotson was going to step up to be the third guy after trading for him from the Washington Commanders right before the season. It wasn't even close to what they needed, and what was worse was that A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith each missed four games, and Dotson still only had 19 catches for 216 yards in 17 games.
There is a lot more pressure on Dotson in 2025 as the Eagles declined his fifth year option on his rookie and is basically playing for a roster spot in 2026. If Philadelphia has to deal with Smith and Brown missing time again, Dotson must perform better or he will be sent packing.
Dallas Goedert, TE
Goedert's only significant defect is that he can't stay on the field. Injuries have cost him 15 games in the last three years, including a career-high seven games missed in 2024. He still managed to be the third-leading receiver on the team with 496 yards and two touchdowns.
After an offseason filled with speculation on whether the Eagles would trade or cut him, Goedert worked out a restructured deal for 2025 with Philadelphia. Grant Calcaterra is nipping at his heels for playing time so Goedert has to prove he can stay healthy because the talent is still there.
Reed Blankenship, S
It's somewhat odd to have Blankenship on this list, considering he is still young and playing well, but 2024 was considered a down year compared to his 2023 campaign. The only stat that was improved from 2023 was the four interceptions he caught last year, but everything else was down. Even his completion percentage allowed was up to a career-worst 70%.
This selection isn't more about his performance as he still had a solid season, but now the team doesn't have C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Darius Slay, James Bradberry, or Avonte Maddox in the secondary. Blankenship instantly becomes one of the veterans in the unit at age 26 so more will be put on him from a leadership standpoint.
Jake Elliott, K
If it hadn't been for a 10 of 11 postseason performance, the Eagles would have replaced Elliott in the offseason. His regular season was the worst of his career, missing eight field goals with a 77.8% completion percentage made and made just one of seven kicks from 50+ yards.
Philadelphia got lucky that Elliott wasn't called on as much late in games to win it for the team. Entering 2025, Elliott could be on a shorter leash if he doesn't improve from long distance.
