A grief like this would consume anyone and cause them to quit, but he decided to stay because helping people is his true calling. Chimney knew the risks and had seen many people he loved perish from the job, but he stayed.

This episode showed Chimney at his lowest and still willing to put his all into the job in spite of the pain that he was feeling. With Chimney at the helm of the 118, he is going to be able to give a fresh new perspective on the job and give advice where it hasn't been given before. He is the change that the 118 needs after such a devastating loss. His expertise and everything he learned from watching both Bobby and Gerrard will guide him to be the best captain he can be.

Every time someone from the team needed help or guidance, even if they might have been at odds at the time, Chimney was there for them. He had always made it known that he would do anything for anyone in the 118, regardless of what he was feeling personally. After losing his brother and now his captain, he will make it his mission and responsibility to keep everyone safe. This kind of pain is something he never wants to go through again, and he wants to shield others from experiencing it like he has in 9-1-1.
