This Last of Us Star Says Season 2's Most Controversial Moment Led to Her Refusal to Watch It

Nico Parker, the daughter of Thandiwe Newton, starred in The Last of Us before moving on to play Astrid in the How To Train Your Dragon live-action remake. But she's not likely to watch Season 2 of the show.

In the very first episode, Parker played Sarah, the daughter of Pedro Pascal's Joel Miller. She was an adorable teen who met a tragic end, shot by a soldier who thought she was infected. Her death was painful to watch, but it pales in comparison to another death on the show. In Season 2, Joel is murdered by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and, as Parker told Seth Meyers on Late Night recently, she just can't handle watching her onscreen dad die horribly.

“I haven’t watched the second season because the idea of seeing him die is so deeply distressing,” Parker said, before naming the stars who lead the show after Pascal's exit. “But I’m a huge fan of Bella [Ramsey] and Kaitlyn Dever and Isabela [Merced] and Gabriel [Luna] and all of them, so I do want to watch it because I want to see them. But Pedro dying is just a lot.”

Of course, Pascal has died before in movies and TV shows. It's becoming a bit of a thing with him. For example, his head was crushed like a grape in Game of Thrones, and he was shot with so many arrows he resembled a pincushion in Gladiator II. “I watched Gladiator II and he dies in that and I was totally fine,” Parker offered, to which Meyers said, “Yeah, because at some point you realize, you know, they’re just movies."

“He’s just gonna keep dying," Parker concluded. But Pascal's next big project is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it's practically a given he won't die in that, considering that he and the rest of the Fantastic Four team will be reprising their roles in Avengers: Doomsday the following year.

No-One Likes It When Pedro Pascal Dies

There's one other person who thinks The Last of Us Season 2 is a lot... Pascal's sister Lux Pascal. She recently talked to the outlet Remezcla while at the 2025 Platino Awards, via Entertainment Weekly. She "burst into tears" at his Last of Us death, she said.

"I have to say that being Pedro Pascal's sister, I knew how that episode would end. I knew what was going to happen. But even so, I saw it and I wanted to throw the iPad," she said. "It's not the first time he's done it to me," Lux went on "It's not the second time he's done it to me. I think it's the fourth time he's done it to me. Because how many deaths has he had? Game of Thrones, Equalizer 2, The Last of Us - each is more violent than the other... seeing my brother die that way, I didn't like it at all."

She and Nico Parker need to form a support group! Many Joel fans would also join.

The Last of Us is streaming now on Max.
