The Walking Dead: Dead City is into its second season and with it has come the return of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Wielding Lucille and embarking on a rampage in the earlier seasons of The Walking Dead, Negan etched his name into infamy when he crushed the skull of fan-favorite Glenn (Steven Yeun). It is an action Glenn's widow, Maggie, has not forgiven him for all these years. With the passage of time, Negan seems to have turned a new leaf, and admits regret for the loss he caused her. Negan and Maggie's split is something that is not fully understood by Hershel (Logan Kim), her son. However, Kim has pitched an idea on how Dead City might bring back Glenn on-screen.
"Well, we could see maybe a flashback of Glenn, or maybe bring on the ghost of Glenn! Something like that would be cool," Kim tells ScreenRant in an interview. The Hershel actor does pour cold water on the "ghost" pitch though, adding, "I don't know. Hershel's never really seen him, so I don't know if he'd actually know what his dad looks like in that moment."
Kim goes on to add, "But I would be so happy to play Hershel forever. He's so fun to play. I really like playing somebody that I'm not like at all. It's a lot of fun to tap into somebody that's not super easy to connect with immediately. I had to discover that way of acting him out."
Much of Glenn's lingering presence in The Walking Dead is tied to Maggie's inability to move on from him. Given that a decade has passed and her own son has accused her of being obsessed with Negan for what he did, perhaps it might be the right time to let Glenn's memory rest easy. Constantly trying to make atonement for his actions is Negan, and this will be a key part of his arc this season.
"With Dead City, I don't know that it's the last year at all, but I think it's forming this character who, when we first met him, was the worst person in the world. And as time has gone by, we see a different side of him."
