According to Variety, on May 14, Warner Bros. CEO Channing Dungey revealed at WBD’s upfront presentation that Bergeron will host the upcoming Discovery special with the working title, “Dancing With Sharks.”

The  show, which will air during Shark Week 2025, is described as an “unprecedented underwater dance competition between expert divers and their shark partners.”

“Blending skill, grace and the daring pursuit of the ultimate underwater thrill, five divers—all trained by a world-class underwater choreographer—will compete to show off their skills during epic underwater dances,” the teaser announced.

On May 14, Bergeron, 70, posted to Instagram as he wore a blue shirt with the Word “Dancing” written on it.  His hand covered the rest of the wording. As “Jaws” style music played, the veteran television host did a fake sneeze and took his hand off of the shirt to reveal that it said, “Dancing With Sharks.”

“See you this summer. It’ll be fintastic!” Bergeron added.

“Yup. It’s happening 🥳🦈 @discovery @sharkweek,” Bergeron captioned the post.

After five years away from the ballroom, the Emmy winner later posted to joke to fans, “I  was patiently waiting for a cross-species spinoff 😏🦈.”

Bergeron was the host of “Dancing With the Stars” from 2005 through 2019.  In 2020, both he and co-host Erin Andrews were let go from the series. Tyra Banks served as the new host from 2020 through 2022. In 2023, Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough took over as co-hosts.

Bergeron admitted that he saw the writing on the wall after he butted heads with executives over the direction the show had taken when a new showrunner was brought in.

Bergeron even joked to E! News that the only thing he missed from the TV dancing show was “the paycheck.” “There are some people I miss, but I’m really happy not hosting,” he said in 2024

Fans will be happy to see Bergeron back as a host for the shark-themed dancing show, “Dancing With the Sharks.” Discovery Channel’s Shark Week 2025 will take place from July 7 to July 13.
