“Happy International Women’s Day to my amazing Mother!” he captioned a March 8 Instagram, which showed him and Terri sitting side by side. “Strong & brave, she was the first woman in St. Louis county awarded ‘Firefighter of the Year’! Thank you for inspiring us all. I love you!”

Fans got a closer look at the mother-son bond in Vanderpump Rules Season 4, Episode 9, which documented Terri’s trip to Los Angeles. While having dinner with Tom and his then-girlfriend, Ariana Madix, Terri shared an adorable anecdote about Tom’s 3rd grade talent show. She said the contest featured 25 acts, 24 of which were all girls. But despite being the only boy in the show, Tom managed to take the W with a dancing and lip-syncing number.
“He freakin’ stole the show and took first place,” Terri said.

Tom shed more light on his upbringing in a confessional, saying he got his best qualities from his mom, who was a firefighter for 28 years.
“I grew up in St. Louis. My parents divorced at [an] early age,” he revealed. “She definitely had to have the physicality to be able to separate me and my brother when we would fight. My mom has always been a real badass. My toughness and a little bit of my cockiness and my perserverence sort of come from my mom.”
