J.T. Miller is a star on the ice in New York, but now it appears he's attempting to qualify for the US Open on the golf course in what would be an amazing story.
The New York Rangers 2024/25 season ended in major disappointment, and while that's already led to some changes, there's definitely many more expected in the coming months.
One player that isn't expected to move is veteran J.T. Miller, who landed with the team after drama led to his departure from the Vancouver Canucks, and given his talent and leadership, he's a key piece for the future of this organization.
In the off-season however, Miller is now part of an incredibly interesting story, as the veteran forward is now reportedly attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open at Oakmont on the back of an incredibly impressive 0.2 handicap.
While some fans will look at this and question why he's not playing hockey throughout the off-season, as players get older it often becomes more important to step away from the ice for a time in the summer before getting back too it, and during that time, he's simply trying to make it in another incredibly difficult sport.
At this point, the odds are definitely stacked against Miller in his chase to qualify for the U.S. Open, but when a player has the drive for one sport, their determination can often help them succeed in others, and with a clear talent for golf, not many will be betting against him.
Ultimately, golf may be considered one of, if not the hardest sports in the world, so it won't be easy for Miller, but even if he doesn't make it, to simply get this far as an athlete in another sport is incredibly impressive.
