"Tough To Swallow": 9-1-1: Nashville's New Recruit Comes With A Brutal Backstory

9-1-1: Nashville star LeAnn Rimes has revealed an aspect about her new character that has been hard to swallow. The show will be the second spinoff of the 9-1-1 franchise, and is set to premiere on ABC during the 2025-26 broadcast season. With the 9-1-1: Nashville cast list finalized, Rimes has been one of the leading names joining the show.

Rimes is already a country music superstar and has had appearances in several movies and TV shows over the course of her career, including Coyote UglyLogan Lucky, and Days of Our Lives. Despite joining the cast of 9-1-1: Nashville, not much has been revealed about Rimes' character so far, but she's revealed a key detail.

In an interview with The Flow Space, via TV LineRimes discussed the fact that in 9-1-1: Nashville, her character is going to be a mother. While not much is known about the character yet, she did reveal that she will definitely be a parent, and that the crew of the show found this hard to swallow.

She stated that the crew on the set of 9-1-1: Nashville told her that they didn't believe she was old enough to be playing a mother. Check out Rimes' comments below:

"They were like, ‘Oh, wow, we heard you’re going to be playing a mom. What? There’s no way you’re old enough to play a mom!'”

What This Means For Rimes' 9-1-1: Nashville Character

She Could Have A Strained Relationship With Her Child

Rimes' character remains something of a mystery at this point, and not even her name has been revealed. However, it has been confirmed that her character will be a mother, and screenshots of social media comments posted on the 9-1-1 News X account suggest that Rimes' character will be the mother of Blue.

Hunter McVey's Blue is described as a firefighter who is a haunted bad boy, and this could shine a light on the character's relationship with his mother. Rimes' comments could also hint at the fact that her character is a mom who had her child at a young age, and she may not have been ready for what motherhood brings.

It wouldn't be a surprise if Blue has a rocky relationship with his mother, and Rimes' character might be peripheral to his life. However, they might instead be very close, but with demons from the past that impact each of them. The dynamic of two damaged people who care for one another would make an interesting 9-1-1: Nashville stroyline.

Our Take On Rimes' Character Reveal

Family Stakes Are Always Key In The 9-1-1 Franchise

9-1-1 as a franchise has always focused heavily on the importance of family and the family dynamic. Even though 9-1-1: Lone Star was canceled after 5 seasons, the show had a strong father-son relationship between Owen and TK Strand at its core, which raised the stakes, and made the character arcs richer and more interesting.

9-1-1: Nashville could look to do the same her, with Rimes' unnamed character and her son Blue. While it's unclear whether she will work with Blue as part of the emergency services, the fact he is in dangerous situations will definitely add dramatic tension to their relationship as it unfolds over the course of 9-1-1: Nashville.
