Tough Yet Progressive Sledding For Jets' Aaron Glenn In Year 1

Expectations for the New York Jets are varying, with many predicting tough times for Aaron Glenn in his first head coaching stint.

Granted, he hasn't walked into the best situation, but he has made the most of it, swinging changes both on and off the field with the roster still seen as less than.

However, he cannot implement all the personnel changes in one offseason, but he can establish the cultural foundations for this new era, which is exactly what he has done.

For Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski, the upcoming season is expected to be tough for Glenn and New York, with a predicted 6-11 record for the franchise.

"Aaron Glenn is a potential culture-changer," Sobleski writes. "Glenn comes form Detroit where Dan Campbell and his staff helped change expectations for the Lions and their fans. Glenn played 15 years in the NFL. He understands the locker room and its players.

"He's also a demanding coach who spent the last four seasons as the Lions defensive coordinator, as the team improved from 3-13-1 to 15-2 in just four seasons. The key this season is simply trying to get the offense to play complementary football with a defense that finished third overall last season."

The offense is the big watch here. Yes, the defense too, but they were servicable at least last season at times.

Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall loom as Tanner Engstrand's "big three," and they will be tasked with shouldering the load. Can they do it? Time will tell, but the offense will look to be a run-first team, and that will hopefully take the pressure off Fields to throw New York to wins.

The defense has to improve, and under Glenn's guidance, many are bullish that it will.

But a 6-11 season isn't ideal, but when put into context, the 2025 season isn't about how many games the Jets win or if they make the playoffs, it is all about putting the right things in place so the franchise can aim to have the type of success if craves down the line.

Yes, a hard season might be forthcoming, but short-term pain for long-term gain seems to be the ploy here. And the franchise has the right guy to navigate these upcoming stormy seas.
