Twitter reacts to Commanders bringing back the gold pants

July is a quiet month around the NFL, at least for the first two weeks before training camps open. Tuesday was the Washington Commanders’ 92nd anniversary, and it came with some news. The franchise is bringing back the gold pants as a part of their uniform combination for the 2024 season.

The Commanders last wore the gold pants in 2018. The last game in the gold pants came in the 2018 regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, and they lost 24-0.

The gold pants were a regular part of Washington’s uniform combination from 1937 until the late 1970s. They were used for special occasions over the years but made a return in 2010 under former team president Bruce Allen. The gold pants were a part of Washington’s magical 2012 season with rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III.

When the name first changed in 2020, fans wanted something from the past to cling to. Things became worse in 2022 when the franchise was rebranded to the Commanders. However, when new owner Josh Harris and his partners took over last summer, they began making positive changes. A return to the gold pants is another one of those changes that will make fans happy.

So, how did everyone feel about the move? We took to X—formerly Twitter—to find some of the reactions to the Commanders’ bringing back the gold pants. The consensus: Most people love the move.
