Tyler O’Neill to undergo imaging on knee Wednesday, will miss 4th-straight game

After exiting Saturday’s game against Brewers due to knee soreness, O’Neill revealed that he’s been “grinding through” lingering discomfort for “a little while.”

Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill will undergo imaging on his right knee Wednesday morning

As the Red Sox prepare for their third and final series matchup versus the Orioles, an injured Tyler O’Neill is catching an early flight home to Boston.

The outfielder will undergo imaging on his right knee Wednesday morning, according to MassLive’s Christopher Smith. And while manager Alex Cora said O’Neill’s early departure home was precautionary, Wednesday will mark his fourth-straight missed game.

“We feel like he should be fine but we just want to make sure he is fine,” Cora said ahead of Tuesday’s win at Camden Yards, per Smith. “So do that tomorrow morning and see where we’re at.”

After exiting in the seventh inning during Saturday’s loss to the Brewers, O’Neill revealed that he’s been “grinding through” lingering discomfort for “a little while.”

Barely a third of the way into the 2024 season, O’Neill’s injury is just one of many that have plagued the Red Sox. They’re already missing the likes of Triston Casas, Trevor Story, Masataka Yoshida, Lucas Giolito and Garrett Whitlock.

Protecting the health of O’Neill – a slugging outfielder who leads Boston in home runs (11) – is imperative for Boston. O’Neill is batting .236 so far this season and is 11-for-73 (.151) with 36 strikeouts during May.

The Red Sox will look to claim the series during their final matchup against Baltimore Wednesday night.
