The Saints fall to 2-5 after a brutal loss on TNF
Former head coach Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos blew out the New Orleans Saints in a 33-10 loss. Once again, the team was outcoached, outplayed, and lifeless. On a night that was supposed to be special and honor former Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees, fans were left with a bitter taste as they watched their team get decimated on primetime.
Up: Brees ceremony
Despite the brutal loss, New Orleans legend Drew Brees was honored at halftime and inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame. When he arrived in 2006, Brees started the turnaround for New Orleans football including bringing the team their first-ever Superbowl. Along with that Superbowl, Brees brought a winning culture and high expectations to the city. In a season where the team is struggling and going through what looks like rock bottom, it’s fun to reminisce about what once was. The team's recent losses make you appreciate what Brees brought to the franchise.
Down: Everything else
Nothing about this Saints team looked good on Thursday Night. The defense and offense were bad, and as a continued trend, Dennis Allen’s team left with a loss. After an exhilarating 2-0 start, New Orleans has gone on to lose five straight in boring fashion leaving a terrible product on the field. While it is true the team has been blindsided by brutal injuries sidelining key players, the way the team has been demoralized and made lifeless on the field is unacceptable and unfair to the fans.
The number of fans wearing black and gold was minimal at the start of the fourth quarter. After starting 2-5 in 2022, 3-4 in 2023, and now 2-5 in 2024 fans are fed up. It’s one thing to be losing games, but it’s another to be losing games and putting out a terrible product on the field week in and week out. The team is built to contend for a championship, but they have better odds for the number one overall pick than they do for a Superbowl. With an aging roster, a 2-5 record, and a fuzzy future ahead changes need to be made if the franchise wants to continue to sell out the dome.
