The Vegas Golden Knights could be facing the threat of being investigated by the NHL amid the Mitch Marner trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, per Elliotte Friedman.
Shortly before the first round of the draft, many trade rumors sending Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Vegas Golden Knights emerged.
Mitch Marner had been linked to the Golden Knights for the past few months, but most rumors stated he would join the team in free agency, not the trade market.
However, trade rumors started to come out, with Treliving hopelessly looking at ways to not lose his star player for nothing in return.
The insider Elliotte Friedman shed light on a new development that suggests trouble could come the way of the Golden Knights if the trade were to get done.
On the latest 32 Thoughts episode, Friedman suggested that while no proof has come out, he believes the Leafs will go after the Golden Knights for tampering with Marner if the deal happens, but would be willing to drop the accusations if Vegas sends a good player or two in the trade:
'People aren't going to be happy with this but I'm going to say it anyways. There's been some talk that if Marner goes to Vegas, the Maple Leafs will go after Vegas for tampering.I have no proof that Vegas is guilty of anything. But it is a time around the league where teams are extremely sensitive about it and... the NHL is itching to try and make an example out of someone.
Once again.... I don't have any proof that Vegas is guilty of anything but, if they make a deal with Toronto and send a good player or two, I'm betting any chance the Maple Leafs file for tampering goes away.'
The NHL will determine if tampering happened between Vegas and Marner, and official consequences could come if they're found guilty.
