Vicki Gunvalson Shares an Update on Her Relationship with Boyfriend Michael Smith

   

One thing about Vicki Gunvalson? She always goes above and beyond for her loved ones.

This was further demonstrated when The Real Housewives of Orange County alum threw an epic birthday party for her boyfriend, Michael Smith. Vicki shared the event in a May 25 Instagram Reel that captured Michael’s heartfelt reaction to the surprise.

“I did it! It was a great surprise for [Michael’s] 65th birthday,” Vicki captioned the video. “Thank you to all the people that flew in to celebrate with him and all his long time friends venturing out to Coto. We love you all.”

The party was held at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club, where guests enjoyed a night of dancing, music, drinks, and cigars. The event room was decorated with yellow, gold, and white balloons and featured banquet tables with black coverings, greenery centerpieces, black candlesticks, and gold-tone dishware.

“We’ve been together three years,” Vicki said during a birthday speech. “It’s been a little bumpy, but it’s smooth sailing now. We are so happy.”

Guests included Michael’s sister-in-law as well as Shannon Storms Beador. The RHOC cast member shared a peek at the festivities on May 29, posting a few photos of Vicki and the guest of honor.

“So much fun celebrating at Michael’s surprise birthday!” she captioned the posts. “Love these two.”

Vicki and Michael confirmed their romance in early 2022, about eight years after Vicki finalized her divorce from Donn Gunvalson. After the separation, the former Housewife dated Brooks Ayers and then Steve Chavez Lodge. The latter proposed to Vicki in 2019, but the pair called off their engagement about two years later. Vicki addressed the split in a since-deleted 2021 Instagram statement.

“Yes, the rumors are true. The time has come for Steve and I to move forward or move on and we are …. moving on,” she wrote. “There is no fault with either person, we are just going in different directions. I wish him the best life has to offer and to be happy, and he has wished the same for me. I gave it my all, but sometimes the ‘ALL’ isn’t enough. We both have no further comment.”

Now that Vicki and Michael are three years into their relationship, many fans have wondered if the couple will ever get hitched. Vicki addressed the topic in a December 2024 episode of My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast, claiming she might say “I do” before 2026.

“Last night we had the M talk. Marriage. And I’m like, ‘Do we need to do that?’” she recalled, referring to Michael. “And he goes, ‘We don’t need to.’ Financially, he’s good. I’m good. We’ve got the prenups already done. The postnups already done. But he goes, ‘I know you value marriage so much.’ And I’m like, ‘I do.’ So we might do that in 2025.”

She continued: “I don’t want him to get down on one knee. And do all this elaborate sh-t. I just want it to be [where] we’ve checked all the boxes of all the things. And I don’t need all the big hoopla Instagram sh*t.”
