Vikings can leverage second-round pick in trade down after latest 2025 NFL Draft quarterback news

Trading down in the NFL Draft has become a key idea for the Minnesota Vikings over the course of the last few months. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mesnah has a history of making trades in the NFL Draft, both up and down.

The idea of trading down is one that makes sense on the surface, but there is one obstacle that stands in the way of the Vikings. Who would want to trade up, and if they do, who would they trade up for? In this class, it's a big question, but it would likely be a falling prospect.

Shedeur Sanders could prompt Vikings trade down

If a player does end up falling to prompt a trade, it's more than likely going to be a quarterback. That quarterback is likely going to be Shedeur Sanders, as were keep hearing more and more that teams aren't that high on him. The latest of which comes from Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

I’m having a really hard time finding coaches or scouts who believe Sanders is a first-round talent. This, by the way, is separate from any issue anyone has with his personality. Those questions exist, but lots of teams have made exceptions in that department in the past to take on guys with special talents.

The problem seems to be that too many folks don’t think Sanders has those types of gifts.

What I keep hearing—and this has nothing to do with anyone having some personal issue with Sanders, or looking for him to fall in the draft so they can draft him—is that he isn’t a great athlete on tape, doesn’t have exceptional arm talent, and too often does things that simply won’t translate to the NFL game.

I honestly think he's being overlooked way too much at this point. Not going first overall I completely understand, but he's a really good quarterback who does all the boring things well, which is the heart of good play at the position.

If he does end up falling, the Vikings could hit the jackpot with teams like the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and New Orleans Saints potentially ready to trade up for him. That would net the Vikings multiple picks, which would be huge in a draft where they have just four selections going into the weekend.

Strap in, things are getting interesting.
