Mandatory minicamp is now complete for the Minnesota Vikings. They got three good days of practice in before they left for the summer. One thing that is interesting is the final three days of OTAs are the following week, but not anymore.
According to the Access Vikings podcast , head coach Kevin O'Connell has cancelled OTAs next week that were set to be June 16th-18th. This is a nice reward for the Vikings, as their summer vacation starts early.
It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that the Vikings have cancelled the final practices of OTAs. Veterans often don't attend and, quite frankly, they don't need to. It gives them the chance to take a few extra days to relax and spend time with their families.
This is a normal move by many coaches around the National Football League. Doing so is a good way gain brownie points with your players, and O'Connell has taken advantage of it. Often times, some of the final practices are based around team building, going on an outing like bowling or Top Golf. It's cool to do team building, but time with their families is arguably the better play.
The Vikings won't report to training camp until mid-July, which will be a great break for the players, but the content won't stop here at A to Z Sports, as we will be previewing the season from multiple angles.
