Buoyed by a hat trick and an assist by forward Ville Koivunen, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Toronto Marlies, 6-3, at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto on Wednesday.
Defenseman Filip Kral scored two goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (19-8-3-0) while forward Vasily Ponomarev recorded three assists.
Goaltender Filip Larsson improved his record to 7-3-1 after he stopped 36 of 39 shots.

Earlier in the day, Penguins forward Emil Bemstrom was selected for the American Hockey League’s All-Star Classic. Bemstrom is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s leading scorer this season with 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists) in 28 games.
The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Belleville Senators on Friday, 7 p.m.
Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Indy Fuel at the Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Ind.
The result dropped Murashov’s record to 14-2-1.
Defenseman Mats Lindgren scored the lone goal for Wheeling (23-6-2-0).
The Nailers’ next game is a road game against the Fuel on Friday, 7 p.m.
