Walking Dead's 88% RT Spinoff Is About To Leave Netflix

Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon and Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes aiming pistols in The Walking Dead

One of The Walking Dead's highest-rated spinoffs is officially leaving Netflix US in August. Since The Walking Dead's flagship show came to an end after an 11-season run in 2022, its zombie-infested world has been kept alive in multiple sequels and spinoff shows.

These include The Walking Dead: Dead City, which follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) unlikely partnership, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which follows Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and later Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) as they trek across Europe, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which finally reunited Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) with Michonne (Danai Gurira) and their kids.

The latter, which is currently the highest-rated Walking Dead spinoff on Rotten Tomatoes with an 88% critic score – for context, The Walking Dead has a 79% rating, Dead City has a 71% rating, and Daryl Dixon has a 69% rating – will be leaving Netflix US on August 19. That means the last day subscribers can watch The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live on Netflix is August 18.

What This Means For The Walking Dead On Netflix

The Ones Who Live is currently the only one of Netflix's available Walking Dead shows slated to leave the streaming service. Thanks to a new 2025 deal with AMC, all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead are available to stream and will remain on the service until 2027. All eight seasons of The Walking Dead's prequel series, Fear the Walking Dead, are also still available to watch.

Of the more recent spinoffs, Netflix subscribers can also enjoy the first seasons of Dead City and Daryl Dixon. We'd expect season 2 for both shows to arrive on the streaming service soon, as we inch closer to the release of their respective third seasons. Daryl Dixon will return to AMC and AMC+ for season 3 on September 7 and has been renewed for a fourth and final season.

The Ones Who Live is the only Walking Dead spinoff that was planned as a limited, six-episode series. Its last episode premiered on March 31, 2024. Licensed shows often leave Netflix after a set time has passed following their final episodes. CW shows like RiverdaleJane the Virgin, and the Arrowverse series have all left or are set to leave Netflix five years after their final season premiered, for instance.

Our Take On The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live's Possible Return

Rick Grimes' side profile bathed in red light in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

Walking Dead mastermind and Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple hasn't entirely ruled out the possibility of revisiting Rick, Michonne, and their family. It's unlikely to happen in a second season of The Ones Who Live, however. During an interview with The Direct, Gimple explained that The Ones Who Live was always meant to be a limited series, but that fans wouldn't "necessarily never see those characters again."

Star Andrew Lincoln has likewise teased his interest in returning to the world of The Walking Dead. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lincoln said:

"Never say never. There are other very important characters in the universe that are still wandering around and alive, that I think it might be quite exciting to have them breathe the same air and see how long they survive together. But it's a difficult one. It would have to be like this, a really exciting story."

Some fans have speculated that Daryl might be reunited with Rick (and Michonne) in the series finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, though Norman Reedus was quick to shut those theories down at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The star explained that he wouldn't want the show to go there just because the internet thinks it should, and that the story needs to remain surprising.

The Walking Dead universe is still going strong. Even if Rick and Michonne are leaving Netflix, even if they don't show up in Daryl Dixon's final season, there's a chance we'll see them again someday. It would certainly be cathartic to see The Walking DeadThe Ones Who Live's leading characters reunited with their friends and family somewhere down the line.
