Morton is well known for her role as Alpha, leader of the Whisperers in AMC's The Walking Dead.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Samantha Morton is well known for her roles in The Serpent Queen, The Whale, Save the Cinema, and She Said. She is also fondly remembered for her portrayal of Alpha in The Walking Dead. Now Morton stars in 2073, a British mockumentary.

The movie is directed by Academy Award-winning Asif Kapadia, known for the Amy Winehouse documentary Amy. Kapadia co-wrote the film with Tony Grisoni (The Man Who Killed Dom Quixote). 2073 is inspired by the 1962 featurette, La Jetée, from Chris Maker that premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in Sept. 2024.

The story is set in a dystopian future that follows Ghost (Morton), a survivor who experiences visions of the past, which happens to be our present. The world she lives in shows the survivors who hide underground as surveillance drones and militarized police monitor their every move. While the movie may seem like science fiction, it is actually an example of what life could be like, something that isn't fiction or documentary but a warning of things to come.

2073 is currently available to view in the UK. There has been no announcement of a US or wider release.
