Washington Capitals general manager and vice president Brian MacLellan announced that the club has re-signed forward Connor McMichael to a two-year, $4.2 million contract. The contract will pay an average annual value (AAV) of $2.1 million.
McMichael notched 18 goals and 15 assists for 33 points in 80 games with the Capitals during the 2023-24 season. He set career highs in goals, assists and points. McMichael ranked tied for fourth on Washington in goals, and sixth in points. McMichael added one goal and 13 shots during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 23-year-old spent most of the 2022-23 campaign with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) where he registered 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points in 57 regular-season games. During the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs, McMichael led Hershey in goals with six and scored in Game 6 and 7 of the Calder Cup Finals against Coachella Valley, helping the Bears capture their 12th AHL championship.
The Ajax, Ontario product was initially drafted No. 25 overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. In 155 career NHL games with the Capitals, McMichael has recorded 27 goals and 24 assists for 51 points. He made his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season and recorded nine goals and 18 points in 68 games.
