The future of Jacob Trouba with the New York Rangers is a conversation that continues to drag out.

The Rangers were trying to clear cap space to start the offseason and were successful in getting rid of Barclay Goodrow’s contract.

Rumblings that the Rangers were interested in moving Trouba went public as a situation that should have remained private was discovered by all fans and team’s across the NHL.

A deal that would send Jacob Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings was reportedly being discussed, but nothing came of it.

Now it’s July 10 and Trouba is still a member of the Rangers, so what exactly does this mean?

The longer the Rangers hold off on a trade, the more likely it is that Trouba will remain in New York for this upcoming season.

Most notable free agents have already been signed, meaning if the Rangers were to move on from Trouba, that would leave a major hole in their roster since it will be a lot harder to replace him now.

It also means that most teams will not be as willing to take on Trouba’s contract this late in the offseason.

Trouba holds a hefty $8 million cap hit and that’s a lot of money to take on at this point in time.

All signs are pointing in the direction that Trouba will remain with the Rangers, but a lot can still transpire from now up until opening night in October.
