The latest episode of The Valley After Show is proof that Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright are still trying to figure out how to navigate their post-split relationship.

In the above clip, which came after Season 2, Episode 5 of The Valley, Jax was calling and texting Brittany repeatedly before she finally answered the phone. “Why do you keep calling me and texting me?” she asked, and he replied, “I’m just checking in. What’s going on?”

Brittany reminded him she was filming the After Show.

“I forgot. Sorry, I forgot,” Jax answered. “I had a really rough day today with the car, I had car issues. It was just a bad day. That’s it, I guess.”

When Brittany responded, “Okay, well, I gotta get back to work,” Jax asked, “Why are you being so mean?”

Although Brittany insisted she wasn’t being “mean,” Jax answered, “You’re just being really short with me.”

“What is my life?” Brittany asked as she hung up.

Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright's relationship issues on The Valley Season 2, explained

Season 2 of The Valley has marked a turning point for Jax and Brittany as they not only continue to navigate their ongoing divorce, but also Jax's mental health struggles. Most recently, Jax checked himself into a mental health facility to work out his issues with anger, depression, and drug addiction.

The former couple's problems persisted even then, though, as Brittany revealed on Episode 4 that Jax was “rage texting” her while he was supposed to be working on himself. As she put it, “I found out he’s in therapy almost seven hours a day. They take his phone while he’s in therapy and then he gets 15-minute breaks in between. So, he’s doing therapy, getting his phone, rage texting me, going back to therapy, getting his phone, rage texting me, going back to therapy.”

By Episode 5, however, new information came to light about Jax.

How Jax Taylor is doing today after his bipolar diagnosis

While in the aforementioned mental health facility, Jax was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“I tell you what, I cried my eyes out when they told me what was wrong,” he said on The Valley After Show. “You know, ‘You’re clearly bipolar. You should be on medication.’ It was just like, ‘Thank you, God. Finally, I found something I can take that’s going to fix this f—king problem.' ‘Cuz clearly, it’s a problem.”

Jax went on to share that he was prescribed medication, and though he was initially hesitant to take it, he ultimately did and continues to do so today.

“I needed the medication," he said. "And I’m glad I’m on it."

Tom Schwartz asked Jax if his rage has improved, and he said, "I’ll have a little bit where I’m angry, but that’s just normal. Anybody gets angry a little bit here and there. But I’m not where I used to be where I like see red.”

Brittany agreed Jax’s anger has improved some.

“I will say that I can tolerate him around, like whenever we’re doing different things, a little bit more. Like I don’t have to worry about like after he’s out on a bender, because those were the worst days ever…so it’s not that intense, maybe,” she said on the After Show.

But she added it’s not perfect. “He’ll be fine one day and then screaming at me about who I’m dating the next minute. Like it’s just very up and down. Very, very, very up and down,” she said.
