Boston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers walked off the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, keeping up his scorching recent pace after an ugly start to the season.
Devers hit a single off of Orioles left-handed reliever Gregory Soto in the bottom of the 10th inning, driving in centerfielder Ceddane Rafaela for a 6-5 win.
Devers ended the game 2-for-4 with a walk, one run scored and the winning RBI.
Since May 1, Devers is batting .423 (33-for-78) with seven home runs, 29 RBI and a 1.274 OPS (on-base plus slugging).
The former Sox third baseman had a rough start to the season, going hitless through his first five games in March (0-for-19).
He's slowly regained his MVP-caliber form in the months since, slashing .267/.387/.515 in April (27 games) with five home runs and 18 RBI before his torrid May.
Entering the month, Devers had a .228 batting average. Following the first of two games on Saturday, he's raised his season batting average to .303.
The Red Sox and Orioles play again Saturday evening, when Devers will look to remain hot and propel Boston to a third consecutive win and fifth in its past six games.
