2022 Newport Beach Film Festival World Premiere Of "Double Down South"

Walking Dead universe actors Kim Coates and Indiana Sifuentes are featured in the Georgia-filmed drama Double Down South. The movie premiered at the 2022 Newport Beach Film Festival and was released in theaters in January 2024. It can now be viewed on Prime Video.

The indie film, previously known as Southern Gothic, was written, directed, and produced by Academy Award-winning Tom Schulman. Schulman is known for his screenplay Dead Poets Society and the dark comedy 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag, his feature directorial debut. Rick Wallace, Seth Michaels, and Sara Sometti Michaels also produced the Level 33 production.

The story follows Diana (Lili Simmons), a newcomer to the high-stakes world of illegal Keno-pool. She charms Keno-veteran Nick (Coates) into taking her under his wing. As they prepare to compete against the world champion, things take a dangerous turn, and the stakes are upping like never before.

Simmons is well known for her roles in the Cinemax crime drama Banshee and Starz Power Book IV: Force. Her other credits include True Detective, Ray Donovan, and Bone Tomahawk. Coates is best known for his role as Tig in the FX series Sons of Anarchy. He recently starred in White House Plumbers, The Getback, and Children Ruin Everything.

Double Down South also stars Igby Rigney, Tom Bower, Justin Marcel McManus, and Rebecca Lines.

Walking Dead actor Indiana Sifuentes recently announced that he played a "tiny but fun scene" in the film. He portrayed a character named Rebel. Check out the social media post below featuring images of his scene.

Sifuentes portrayed a Savior in The Walking Dead series during seasons 6 through 9. Other credits to his name include The Hypersensitive Hitman, Murder by Numbers, Tag, The Tomorrow War, and more.

Coates will join The Walking Dead universe in the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City, which is currently filming and will be released in 2025. Coates will portray Bruegel, the leader of a fierce gang in New York. He recently appeared as a guest on the podcast PIE (People, Influences, and Experiences) hosted by Kurt Sutter and his wife, Katie Segal, where he mentions his role in the series. He also confirmed the season will consist of eight episodes.
