"We Shall See What Happens": '9-1-1's Oliver Stark Hopes Fans to Interpret Buck and Eddie's Relationship How Ever They Want

Let the speculation continue! During a stop at Good Morning America, 9-1-1’s Oliver Stark answered the question on everyone’s mind — well, kind of. Although his character, Buck, might still be reeling from the death of his father-figure and leader, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), fans are interested to learn more about where the character is leaning with his long-shipped romance with best friend and co-worker, Eddie (Ryan Guzman). The blossoming of the so-called “Buddie” has been something following the series around for quite some time, so will we see steps finally taken in Season 9?

According to Stark, it’s not his decision, but he’s rooting for the fans to get what they want out of it, telling the show’s hosts,

“Fans have become super invested in these characters, in this relationship. You know, they’re best friends, Eddie is a straight character on the show, but I think that’s the point in doing what we do is for people to interpret and take out of it whatever they want and people have been pushing for that for a long time. And, listen, we’re all for people to watch it and take out of it what they want and put into it what they want. So, we shall see what happens. I always like to say: ‘I just work here.’”

This is far from the first time in recent history that Stark has shared his supportive sentiments behind Buck and Eddie’s romantic connection. Just days ago, he spoke to another newscaster, revealing that he would be “down for whatever” when it comes to the potential relationship. This could certainly be what fans need following the gut-punch of losing Krause’s Captain Bobby Nash just weeks ago. In fact, the return of Guzman’s Eddie helped boost viewership numbers for the series, which had hit a slump following the divisive episode that saw the fan favorite bow out for good.

‘9-1-1’ Heads Into Season 9

The Season 8 finale of 9-1-1 arrives this week, but the title has long been safe from cancellation, with its Season 9 renewal announced in early April. There are a lot of big questions left for the finale that will likely string into Season 9, perhaps the largest of all being who will step into the role of captain following the loss of Bobby. But first, all members of the 118 will need to be accounted for following the upcoming episode, which will see them do what they do best — work together to serve their community and save as many lives as possible.
