In an offseason headlined by the acquisition of Trevor Zegras and the excitement for year two of Matvei Michkov, it’s easy to forget that Travis Konecny is coming off his career-best season. For the first time in his career, Konecny crossed the 70-point threshold, scoring 24 goals and 52 assists for 76 points.
The 28-year-old forward is still in the prime of his career, and could easily smash his numbers from the season. The Flyers, still lacking center depth despite the acquisition of Zegras, are loaded on the wing, and it will only benefit Konecny.
His numbers last season were bolstered by a brilliant November, where he tallied eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 14 games. Finding a bit more consistency will help Konecny improve significantly. The best way for Konecny to produce consistently is to have a consistent line.
With Porter Martone still a year out, at least, it’s still very possible that Matvei Michkov could play on his off-wing, with Konecny on the right and Zegras down the middle. That will only help Konecny further push for high point totals.
What are the Expectations for Konecny in 2025-26?
Konecny’s numbers have been steadily climbing since the COVID season. In each season, there has been either a seven, eight, or nine-point improvement from the following year. That said, I do not expect this coming season to be any different.
The increase in numbers can come from a whole assortment of things, whether that be more experience and growth as a player, or even as simple as playing with better linemates. For Konecny, he has both.
Konecny, despite a few cold streaks last season, showed his continued growth from the season prior. With still more room to grow, I would not expect Konecny to stop improving. Not to mention, he has the opportunity to really pile on the points with better linemates, whether that be Zegras and Michkov, Tyson Foerster and Season Couturier, or even Owen Tippett and Noah Cates if needed.
Not to mention, this is year one of Konecny’s $8.75 million cap hit, along with the Olympic season, so there will be some added pressure to continue to improve.
With all of that said, I expect 80+ points out of Konecny this season. If the trend continues, Konecny could be sitting at 83-85 points come the end of the regular season.
So, Don’t Forget about Travis Konecny
As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of other headlines surrounding the Flyers heading into this season.
Will Matvei Michkov continue to impress, and how will he improve in year two? How will Trevor Zegras impact the Flyers in his first season with the team? Will Alex Bump make the roster? Will Tyson Foerster show his full potential in year three? Can Noah Cates repeat his breakout season from last year?
Don’t let that distract you from the fact that Konecny can absolutely be a point-per-game player. With everything else going on around him, it can be easy to forget that one of the longest-tenured Flyers is improving every season.
There are many X-factors on this current Flyers roster, but don’t forget how impactful Konecny can be.
