What The What If...? Season 3 Trailer Means For The Marvel Show
Given how integral What If...? has been to The Multiverse Saga by exploring new takes on beloved Marvel heroes and villains, the season 3 footage feels in many ways like a culmination of the overall arc told across the first two seasons. Something that What If...? season 3 looks to be leaning a lot into is showcasing some more characters who haven't been seen in a while, includes figures like Kate Bishop, Shang-Chi, and Moon Knight, with their respective live-action actors voicing them.
Anthony Mackie also being back to voice Sam Wilson/Captain America before his Phase 5 movie in 2025 is also an effective way for Marvel Studios to bring the character back before the upcoming movie installment. Using this approach, the franchise can build hype for his live-action return, while ensuring the matter of what the hero has been up to remains excitingly mysterious in the main Marvel universe.
With the What If...? season 3 story featuring the return of some key MCU players, the footage also indicates that Marvel Studios is really getting closer to embracing the X-Men in the franchise. The idea of Storm being introduced in What If...? season 3 will be a unique way to soft-start the mutant era in the MCU. Whether or not other iconic X-Men heroes will be featured in What If...? season 3 remains to be seen.
