The Young and the Restless star Michael Mealor and Hayley Erin showed off their goofy sides for a joint interview. The stars revealed how they first met. (Hint: It wasn’t on the set of the soap.) Also, Mealor teased what Claire is doing to Kyle that no one else, not even Audra, could do.
Kyle’s New Groove
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Mealor and Erin shared where they first met. He admitted that his co-star gets sick of this story. “I say this all the time — Hayley probably gets sick of me saying this — but the first night I ever met Hayley was the night she won her Emmy [for Outstanding Younger Actress in 2019 for playing Kiki Jerome on General Hospital],” Mealor explained.
He knew that Erin was already a star in the making. However, that was clear when she played Abby on Y&R before. “I was so excited to work with her. One of my favorite things about working on the soap is that there are always new people coming in, and I love getting to work with people who are joining this show because it’s just a new energy,” he exclaimed. Mealor was elated when he learned that Erin was joining Y&R. He saw this as a good thing for his character.
“It’s a whole new side to Kyle, selfishly, that I get to explore as an actor,” Mealor teased. “And obviously, Hayley’s just the best.” Meanwhile, Erin admitted that she doesn’t get sick of hearing that story. One thing they share in common is their sense of humor.

The co-stars also revealed “the most surprising thing” they found out about one another. Erin admitted that Mealor has more style than she does. “He always looks awesome when he walks into work, and then I feel like a gremlin rolling out of bed. He always looks like he walked out of a magazine,” she added. Surprisingly, her male co-star makes her feel self-conscious.
Mealor was surprised when he learned that Erin enjoys yoga. “I spent years doing yoga, and I don’t know, I always feel like with yoga, there’s like a kindred spirit kind of thing that happens with the other people who do yoga,” he noted.
