Will Kyle Pitts break out? Will Drake London lead the way? Or will Darnell Mooney surprise?
It’s a sleepy Sunday, which means it’s a fine time for a discussion and debate over the future of the Atlanta Falcons. No brass knuckles, please.
Last weekend, we discussed who might lead these 2024 Falcons in sacks, which was perhaps not the most encouraging exercise. Today, we’ll talk about who will lead this team in receiving (use receptions, yards, touchdowns, or preferably a blend of the three), which should be more fun given that this passing attack figures to be light years more impressive than it was in 2022 and 2023.
There are three legitimate candidates for the honor, unless you think Bijan Robinson is going to be a turbocharged receiving back in this offense, which I doubt. Those players would be top receiver Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts, and newly-minted #2 receiver Darnell Mooney, who was signed this offseason to serve as a downfield threat for Kirk Cousins.
I like London’s chance of leading the team in every significant category, myself. Pitts should have a much better season than 2023 and certainly 2022 so long as he’s healthy, but London is a rugged, sure-handed threat who has steadily improved over the first couple of years he has been in the league, and now he’ll be the top option for a quarterback who figures to be throwing a lot. London is primed for a breakout after being the team’s leading receiver the past two seasons, and I see no reason to bet against him doing so again, this time likely with more impressive production.
Who leads the team? Let us know what you think.
