To paraphrase, “Bravo should be fun.” However, the most recent episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta showed a dark side to the beloved franchise.
As fans know, Brit Eady and Kenya Moore were not quick friends and tussled more than once with their words. But the most recent episode showcased how the culture of gun violence in the United States is an epidemic that has grown out of control. While RHOA has always been about light jabbing, it is not okay for a star to insinuate they would turn to such violence out of anger.
Brit Eady made comments about guns after fighting with Kenya Moore on RHOA
Every day, 125 people are killed with guns in the United States. Not to mention 200 are shot and wounded. The gun issue is no laughing matter. So it took Real Housewives of Atlanta fans by surprise when Brit lost her cool inside the vault.
The episode showed Kenya and Brit’s argument escalating after the pageant queen gave the newbie a patted hug as her hello. Later, while playing a game, a note addressed Kenya’s inability to speak kindly to Brit. The mother of one responded, “Peasants cannot come for a queen,” and that did not sit well with Brit.
Brit kept lashing out in anger as the women got ready to leave for the night. All of the cast agreed she was acting over the top. The new peach even went as far as to call her husband for backup. As everyone disperse Brit continues to be riled up, shouting “let that b*tch know. I don’t play them games! I got whip, motherf*cking pistols, everything!” and “I mean, I still got my pistol so.” Kenya kept her cool and decided to get into Porsha Williams’ car for safety. But the altercation was anything but okay.
RHOA Season 16 should feel lighter, but Brit Eady took it low before Kenya Moore was fired
The episode felt heavy and, frankly, scary. Guns ruin people’s lives every day in the United States. Why would producers feel it was okay to leave any of this evidence out? Fans were enraged as they took to X, formerly Twitter.
One wrote, “Are the PRODUCERS deaf or blind!? Brit literally said verbatim, ‘I have my pistol!’ Y’all LIED to us saying there was NO evidence of her saying that! Wth is wrong with y’all!!” Another added, “Wait, so she did say she has a pistol?!! Bravo shoulda have dealt with Brit a long time ago bc she took it too far. How did she get to pistols after that interaction?”
This type of behavior should never be tolerated on a platform like Bravo. As research shows via Brookings, Black Americans are disproportionately impacted by gun violence. And are over 10 times more likely to die by firearm than white people.
Thanks to the recast, Season 16 of the Real Housewives of Atlanta should feel lighter. Yet, here we are talking about a topic that is extremely triggering for countless people watching.
Kenya Moore’s photos of Brit Eady may go too far
Brit was not the only menace on the newest season. Kenya found herself in the hot seat after she allegedly shared suggestive photos of Brit. During an event at her hair salon, Kenya supposedly leaks sexually explicit photos of Brit, leading to her firing.
At the time of the event, Entertainment Tonight revealed that “Kenya was suspended for allegedly depicting Brittany performing a sexual act at the grand opening of her Kenya Moore Hair Spa in Atlanta, from images allegedly found online. The network is still reviewing the content Kenya displayed during filming.”
Kenya eventually took full responsibility for her actions, calling them distasteful. The mother of one shared, “There was a young lady that was new, and she just was poking the bear.” She noted that sometimes newbies “come on and try to make a name for themselves,” until “things took like a really dark turn toward me.”
Kenya “didn’t feel like I was being protected, and I took matters into my own hands. I did my research on her,” she said. “And I found a lot of information, especially in the explicit world, with a few clicks with people helping me. I didn’t get things sent to me, photos or videos that I did see that were allegedly her.”
Bravo should have nipped this in the bud immediately. Brit should never have mentioned hurting someone with her gun. It is unacceptable, and there is no place on TV for this type of behavior. I agree with Kenya, who noted, “She’s gotta go for real.”
