After 12 seasons of emotional twists, high-stakes takedowns, and slow-burn romances, Chicago P.D. may have finally lost one of its most loyal fans — all thanks to how it fumbled one of the most anticipated moments in franchise history: Burzek’s wedding.
For years, fans have waited patiently — some desperately — to see Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek finally get their happily ever after. We stuck through the trauma, the breakups, the near-death experiences, and the emotional back-and-forth that defined their entire arc. We believed in Burzek. We invested in Burzek.
So when Season 12’s finale teased their long-awaited wedding, we were ready. What we weren’t ready for? How painfully anticlimactic and emotionally hollow it turned out to be.
Instead of a heartfelt ceremony or even a raw, intimate moment between the two, the show delivered a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it courthouse “reveal” that felt more like an afterthought than a payoff. There was no buildup, no vows, no real closure. Just a rushed confirmation that, yep, they did the thing — off-screen.
After seasons of emotional groundwork, fans were expecting at least one powerful moment: a speech, a ring exchange, even a slow dance in Intelligence HQ. Instead, we got a throwaway line and a photo. It was insulting.
The backlash was immediate. Social media erupted with heartbreak, frustration, and confusion. “We waited a decade for this?” one fan tweeted. Others pointed out that side plots were given more emotional weight than the wedding of two core characters with the deepest shared history.
This wasn’t just about a wedding. It was about resolution, investment, and trust between show and viewer. Burzek’s story was one of the few remaining emotional anchors for longtime fans — and now, it feels like that bond was broken.
Unless Season 13 offers a serious redemption arc, many fans — myself included — may not be coming back.
Because after what they did to Burzek’s moment, Chicago P.D. no longer feels like our show.
