Why Drew Barrymore Bonded With Teen Mom Reality TV Stars

Drew Barrymore has been very vocal about her childhood. She has opened up about the mental health and addiction struggles she faced in her adolescent years, during which she was simultaneously gaining fame for her iconic career as a child actress.

Fast forward to now, Drew is the successful host of her very own talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show. She interviews cast members from some of the biggest programs on television, but there’s one reality TV franchise in particular that she couldn’t help but have an emotional reaction to on-screen. And that was none other than Teen Mom.

Drew Barrymore felt “triggered” watching the Teen Mom reality TV series

In a recent segment on her talk show, Drew sat down with Brianna DeJesus and Mackenzie McKee, two stars of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

It was during their conversation that Drew became vulnerable and started sharing her personal reaction to a discussion.

“In seeing a preview for that show, I saw something that I say out loud too, and it was, ‘Oh my god. I don’t want my kids to do what I did.’ And so when I saw that, I wanted to have a conversation with you guys about that,” she said in the March 31 episode.

This struck a nerve for Drew, not only because of her complex childhood but because she is a mother of two pre-teen daughters, specifically ages 12 and 10.

“When I saw that, I was very triggered in the sense of I’m finally getting prouder of who I am now. I am not ashamed of who I was but then when it comes to my kids, it’s like I have no grace for myself.”The three continued on to have a vulnerable, honest conversation about their journeys through motherhood and how their personal experiences as kids have shaped their parenting styles.
