Why have the Golden Knights never had a 100-point player in franchise history?

Vegas Golden Knights v Vancouver Canucks

Despite all the success the Golden Knights have had, they've never had a 100-point player in their franchise history. Why is that?

One would figure the Vegas Golden Knights would've had a 100-point player at some point in their short yet successful franchise history. Making two Stanley Cup Finals and winning a Stanley Cup would fetch you a special player who would hit these marks. However, that's not the case.

Before 2024-25, there wasn't even a player who hit 80 points. The closest at the time was William Karlsson with 78 in 2017-18. He also set the single-season record for most goals with 43, establishing himself as a bona fide goal scorer.

Still, all that success should've led the Golden Knights to having at least one player break the century mark. One of those darn Misfits should've broken through and gotten, like, 50 goals and 50 assists in a season. Yet it's never happened and has left hockey fans and Las Vegans alike baffled.

What's the big ol' deal behind this phenomenon? What's causing the Golden Knights not to get over the century mark in terms of points? It's time to explore this great mystery and see if there's an end in sight for the points conundrum.

Why the Vegas Golden Knights haven't had a player pass the century mark in points

Getting a player like Jack Eichel would certainly alleviate this situation. He tends to average a point per game and had 94 points last season. However, a couple of issues have stuck out with the superstar center.

First, he's dealt with injuries in the past. That ranges from lower-body injuries to upper-body injuries, limiting his time on the ice as a Golden Knight. It's a tall task trying to get 100 points when you suffer injuries. Heck, it was tough enough for Connor McDavid to do this, for he barely hit the century mark last season (67 games).

Second, the Golden Knights play a complementary offense that relies on everyone getting a piece. It doesn't matter if Karlsson or Eichel is on the top line. The main premise is finding whoever the open man is for a goal.

That doesn't appear to be changing any time soon. As long as that mindset remains with the team, the Golden Knights won't have anyone to reach the vaunted century mark.

But what about Mitch Marner?

Last season, Marner scored 102 points, with 75 coming off assists. That would've been enough to break both franchise records. While the former Maple Leafs star coming in should boost production, the rules remain the same.

Help your fellow man and find the open shot. As long as that mindset remains, it'll hamper even Marner's production.

Still, things can change for the franchise. Kelly McCrimmon has expressed an openness to shooting the puck more and playing a more selfish brand of hockey. That should be in play when the new season rolls around, helping players like Marner score more.

When will the century mark be shattered for Vegas? With the newest superstar heading to town, it could be this season. However, the old guard could have that continue for a couple more years. It depends on whether the Golden Knights are keen on putting personal accolades over winning Stanley Cups (not likely).
