Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs was traded by the Buffalo Bills in the offseason, but the All-Pro wide receiver is still thinking about the trade that shipped him to upstate New York.
In his first media availability with the Texans, Diggs discussed the 2020 trade, when the Minnesota Vikings sent him to Buffalo, that changed the course of his career.
"I don't know if they sent me to Buffalo with the most kindest, with the most great intent, but all's well that ends well," Diggs said. "When I got to Buffalo, (Josh Allen) is still my guy. ... He embraced (me) and we spent a lot of time, and I probably wouldn't be right here if it wasn't for him."
The trade to Buffalo seemed to pay off. Diggs had his best season as a pro with the Bills and was on a much more competitive roster. If anything, the Minnesota Vikings did Diggs a favor.
In 2020, Diggs tallied 127 receptions, 1,535, yards, and eight touchdowns. Even just last season — in a down year for Buffalo — the wide receiver had a positive output. The 30-year-old racked up 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
The fact that Diggs is still reflecting and trying to figure out why Minnesota traded him isn't a good look. He should simply focus on performing well for his new team. Is he going to talk about Buffalo trading him to Houston in the coming years and the possible motives behind the move?
Diggs will be expected to perform immediately as the Texans hope to make a run for the Super Bowl now that they have their quarterback of the future in C.J. Stroud. If the wide receiver continues to focus on the past, Houston will have a large hill to climb in 2024.
