While General Hospital told us that Maxie was home with a sick Bailey Lu, it still made no sense that GH chose for her not to be at the Nurses' Ball when you consider the other choices it made leading up to the event.
General Hospital's Maxie made the ball happen

In 2023, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) was left in charge of the Nurses' Ball when Lucy (Lynn Herring) was hiding out with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Anna (Finola Hughes) as they tried to bring down Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy). This year, she was enlisted as Maxie's assistant, and we saw her planning the big production on more than one occasion.
In fact, Maxie is Port Charles' resident event and party planner, so it made sense to see her heavily involved. It just didn't make sense to then not ultimately have her at the event she planned.
Maxie had sat with Lucy and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) in the Q kitchen with her laptop, going over numbers and financials for the ball. She was constantly at the rehearsal hall micromanaging the performances and costumes. Yet, when it came time for the big night, she was nowhere to be seen.
Why have Maxie plan at all?

Perhaps a scheduling issue kept Kirsten Storms from bringing Maxie to life at the 2025 General Hospital Nurses' Ball, but if that was to be the case, why did Maxie have to be written in at all as the second in command, arranging this shindig? Explain that something came up for Maxie that kept her from planning things this year, rather than planting her in the thick of it and then having her be a no-show.
Maxie's common-law husband was there, as were her other two children. Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) performed with Anna (Finola Hughes), Lucy, and Felicia (Kristina Wagner), singing "These Boots Were Made for Walking," while James (Gary James Fuller) and Georgie (Lily Fisher) sang "I'll Be There" as the finale. Maxie was glaringly missing from the audience for both performances, and it just felt all wrong.
Of course, Maxie wasn't the only major character missing from this year's ball, but she was the only one who helped plan the event, and then never showed up.
While this year's Nurses' Ball was certainly memorable, we would have liked to have seen Maxie and Lucy being kept on their toes together, making sure everything went off as it should — minus parental reveals, that is.
